K M Mani, P C George blame UPA for rubber crisis

Taking a cue from Mani's speech, Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunilkumar said that this was what the LDF was saying all along.

Thiruvananthapuram: For a change, P.C. George MLA and K.M. Mani, Kerala Congress (M) leader, who were part of the UDF camp in the last Assembly, have come out against the previous Congress-led UPA government at the centre and the then Union finance minister P. Chidambaram for the present crisis of the rubber farmers. They criticised their former political allies during the discussion on the notice for adjournment motion on the plight of rubber farmers moved by Mani in the Assembly on Tuesday.

Taking a cue from Mani’s speech, Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunilkumar said that this was what the LDF was saying all along. Mani had not admitted it while he was part of the UDF government. Following the reply by the minister, Speaker P. Sreeramakri-shnan rejected the notice. The Opposition UDF and George walked out over this. George, however, said that those who had not criticised the UPA’s stand against the rubber farmers had no moral right to raise the issue now. “I am walking out in protest against the policies of the former UPA government and the present NDA government,” George said. Mr. Sunilkumar said that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement would further worsen the crisis.
