Oommen Chandy assures UDF win

Oommen Chandy said he would hold the post of Chief Minister until the results are out.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has rubbished the exit polls predicting a rout for the UDF and said that the votes polled by the people would be counted on Thursday and not the votes of the exit polls.

Mr Chandy asserted that the UDF would be voted back to power, but didn’t say how many seats it would get. He was talking to reporters after inaugurating the PSC employees programme at Public Library.

“The UDF’s win is sure. The BJP will not open an account this time also because in 1977, the BJP contested joining hands with the Marxist party. Even in their stronghold Uduma, they could not win. So how will they win now?” Mr Chandy asked.

When reporters pointed out that Cooperation Minister C. N. Balakrishnan had opined that the UDF will not come back to power, Mr Chandy said it was his opinion.

He would hold the post of chief minister until the results are out and if the UDF comes back to power, the AICC leadership would decide on the CM, he said.
