Mekedatu will face no hurdles: CM Siddaramaiah

Speaking to reporters in Arasikere, he said the Detailed Project Report for the Rs 5,900 crore project had been submitted to the Centre.

Hassan: Exuding confidence that the Mekedatu reservoir project across the Cauvery in Ramnagar district would face no hurdles, CM Siddaramaiah on Saturday said work on it would begin after the Centre gave clearance.

Speaking to reporters in Arasikere, he said the Detailed Project Report for the Rs 5,900 crore project had been submitted to the Centre. “Since it is a drinking water project, there will be no legal hurdles and it does not come under the purview of the Cauvery Tribunal either,” he said.

The project would in no way affect the flow of Cauvery to TN. “I don’t know why TN government is opposing the project. Perhaps, it is for political reasons,” he added. Responding to a statement by state JD(S) chief H.D. Kumaraswamy that Congress had no candidates for Nanjangud bypoll and had to poach one from his party, he said. “We are not short of leaders. Will JD(S) not welcome leaders of other parties if they wish to join it?”
