TD decides to contest Nellore civic body polls

It may be recalled that elections were not held for NMC, along with those in April because of cases in the High Court

NELLORE: Although, they have filed cases in the High Court against irregularities in voters’ list and reservation of wards in Nellore Municipal Corporation, TD leaders have decided to contest the ensuing elections to the civic body, notwithstanding the outcome of the cases.

It may be recalled that elections were not held for NMC, along with those in April because of cases in the High Court.

One of the petitioners and former member of the corporation Vuchi Bhuvaneswar Prasad of TD had alleged that official laxity in submitting the factual report on the lapses in the voters list had delayed elections.

The State’s chief electoral officer Prasad on April 2 directed the district electoral officer to furnish a factual report to set right anomalies in the electoral rolls. The CEO had also referred to the allegations of Bhuvaneswar over the discrepancies in the voters list even after intensive revision of electoral rolls in 2016-17.

Bhuvaneswar Prasad alleged that there are also cases in the High Court against the irregularities in the division-wise electoral rolls and reservations of divisions based on the voters list which is full of errors.

He said that despite administrative lapses one too many, the corporation is gearing up to hold elections. The municipal commissioner has been directed to make arrangements for the selection and appointment of polling and counting personnel and training in consultation with the district collector and DEA.

Prasad said that the TD is entering the fray as they are better placed to give a tough fight to the ruling party.
