THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader K. Muraleedharan has moved Election Commission of India citing many duplicate voters in Vattiyoorkavu.
The Vadakara MP, who vacated the constituency to run for the Parliament, told reporters on Thursday that it came as a rude shock for him.
He also listed a few of the names that appear on the voters' list in duplicate, some in the same booth and others in the neighbouring ones.
He claimed that there are 15,235 duplicate voters registered in the constituency that is witnessing a fierce three-cornered contest.
"What is shocking is that we see some duplicate voters next to each other which force us to suspect a larger plot to sabotage free and fair elections," he said.
"Some voters have also committed impersonation with the help of duplicate voter's ID cards."
He added that a random validation of the sample data reveals gross misappropriations on the voters' list.
Mr Muraleedharan warned that false affidavit by voters will invite punishment under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
Mr Muraleedharan demanded stringent action against them.
