Seven TRS local body reps resign from party; BJP terms it political drama
ADILABAD: Seven TRS leaders -- including Bejjur ZPTC, MPTC, and three Sarpanches and the directors of cooperative society and market committee -- resigned from the TRS party on Tuesday. All these are leaders from the adivasi belt.
They sent their resignation letters to Koneru Konappa, TRS district president of Komaram Bheem Asifabad district.
The TRS leaders said in the letter that they were unable to show their faces before the people as they failed to fulfill the promises they had made vis-a-vis development of roads and bridges in the mandal. Officials, they said, were not responding to their requests on these. MLA Koneru Konappa had promised them to lay a new road between Bejjur to Somini and two high-level bridges, they said.
The resigned leaders were ZPTC of Bejjur Pandram Pushpalatha, Kushanapalli MPTC Atram Sayanna, Sushmir Sarpanch Thorram Shankar, Somini Sarpanch Eladi Sharada, Mogavelli Sarpanch Alam Mangala, Kagaznagar market committee director Naitham Sattaiah and Bejjur cooperative society director Pendram Srihari.
However, doubts were raised over the resignations as the seven were close associates of local MLA Koneru Konappa.
BJP leader Palvai Harish of Sirpur (T) constituency said the ‘mass resignations’ by TRS leaders were a political drama directed by Konappa. He dismissed speculations that they would be joining the BJP in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah during his visit to Telangana.
BJP leaders say the resignation drama was likely aimed at drawing the TRS party high command’s attention and getting some favours.
The BJP leaders asked why the leaders sent their resignations to Konappa and why not the party president or working president.
News is that Konappa did not get an appointment with KCR to represent the problems faced by the local people. An upset Konappa thereafter hatched a plot to get funds released for the construction of two high-level bridges and a new road from Bejjur to Somini.
Some 12 villages were inundated in floods from the backwaters of Pranahitha at Talaivagu in Bejjur mandal following incessant rains. Local people are facing a lot of inconvenience with the bad roads. Pregnant women are worried about lack of transport to reach hospitals for delivery.
There was no attempt from the state government to lay new roads and construct two new high-level bridges to replace the low level bridge on this way.
Questions were also raised over the developing ‘gap’ between Konappa and Pragathi Bhavan and whether the party high command wanted to promote any other leader in the constituency.
