Kerala Youth Congress satraps bat for polls

Mr Mahesh, who also met Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala, told DC that the YC leadership wanted organisational elections.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Youth Congress is headed for organisational elections as desired by its state and national leaders. Youth Congress president Dean Kuriakose and vice-president C. R. Mahesh, who held talks with All-India Youth Congress general secretary Raveendradas here on Wednesday, favoured elections, but left it to the Congress high command to decide the time-frame.

Mr Mahesh, who also met Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala, told DC that the YC leadership wanted organisational elections.

The YC leaders feel that the ball is in the court of the AICC which will decide on it after receiving the report from Mr Raveendradas.

“If the organisational elections are held during March-April next year, the building of the YC state headquarters at Nanthencode here can be completed by the current leadership,” said a YC leader.

Mr Ravindradas accepted the YC leadership’s demand that the former KSU leaders should not be promoted to the YC committee. There were moves from senior leaders like Mr Chennithala and former chief minister Oommen Chandy to bring back former KSU president V. S. Joy as YC general secretary and former KSU vice- president A. M. Rohith as secretary.

“These two have exceeded their age to remain in the KSU. But several other youth leaders have not found any place in the party. So, how can just Joy and Rohith be promoted to the YC from KSU leaving their former colleagues high and dry,” said another YC leader.
