PM Modi violated oath of office, says Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

Kodiyeri said the LDF government implemented the verdict of the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court.

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on Sabarimala was in violation of the oath of office and does not behove a person occupying such a high position.

Kodiyeri said the LDF government implemented the verdict of the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court. "If the PM is not in favour of the verdict then why is he not bringing an ordinance to circumvent it. By making these speeches the prime minister is trying to mislead the people.

The prime minister and his Cabinet colleagues occupied office after taking oath to uphold the Constitution," he said .

The Prime Minister's Kollam statement related to Sabarimala is challenge to the Constitution values that he swore to protect while taking oath. Modi's statement clearly indicated that he was implementing the Sangh Parivar agenda of destroying the Constitution.

Kodiyeri said the prime minister spoke about the renaissance traditions of Kerala. The state has moved forward fighting against orthodox forces and those holding on to evil social practises. During the renaissance period the Sangh Parivar stood with orthodox forces. That's why PM could not speak about any renaissance movement led by Sangh Parivar, he said.

The CPM leader said that the BJP was trying to create a divide between believers and non-believers on Sabarimala issue for vested political interests.

This was clear from the PM's speech. As far as Tripura is concerned , the BJP came to power as the entire vote share of the Congress got transferred to it. Mr Modi has referred to a similar a possibility in Kerala and it is for the Congress to respond to his remarks.

Kodiyeri said the BJP would not return to power as was evident from the results of by-elections and recent Assembly elections in three major states.

The prime minister's statements will be rejected by the people of the state.
