TRS expels party founder for anti-party' activities

TRS general secretary and MLC Palla Rajeswar Reddy said it had come to the party's notice that Mr Naik was indulging in anti-party activities.

Hyderabad: The TRS on Monday suspended its founder-member and MLC Ramulu Naik for alleged anti-party activities. TRS general secretary and MLC Palla Rajeswar Reddy said it had come to the party’s notice that Mr Naik was indulging in anti-party activities.

Mr Naik had allegedly met Congress leaders on Sunday, and was seeking a ticket to contest the elections from the Yellandu (ST) Assembly constituency after he was turned down by the TRS.

Reacting to the decision, Mr Naik alleged that there was no democracy or self-respect in the party, it was a private limited company.

Mr Naik had supported TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao all along, most crucially when he was in trouble. In 2008, four TRS MPs and 16 MLAs resigned demanding statehood. In the subsequent bypolls, TRS could retain only two Lok Sabha and seven Assembly seats.

After the results, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao resigned as TRS president taking responsibility for the defeat.

When TRS leaders held a meeting to discuss the issue, Mr Naik made an impassioned plea in support of Mr Chandrasekhar rao.

After this speech, all party leaders stopped thinking about a leadership change and decided to ask Mr Rao to continue as party president. Recognising Mr Naik’s services, the TRS leadership made him an MLC.

Now, when Mr Naik he met AICC general secretary and TS Congress incharge R.C. Khuntia on Sunday, TRS decided to suspend him. Mr Naik questioned why he was suspended for demanding reservations for tribals.
