If re-elected, will build Nava Karnataka', says CM Siddaramaiah

We need not lie like JD(S) or BJP, we only have to convince people about our work, says Siddu.

Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced in Mysuru, on Sunday, that if people blessed the Congress party and it came back to power in 2018 polls, he would take up the responsibility of building ‘Nava Karnataka’ and making it a model state.

“I have not been the CM of one caste or class but of 6.5 crore people, I have strived for the overall development of the state. We need not lie like the JD(S) or BJP, we only have to convince people about our work. If someone speaks against me, it is only out of jealousy,” he said at a Congress convention at KR Nagar here.

Reacting to a question by mediapersons at Mysuru airport on Chamundeswari JD(S) MLA G.T. Devegowda joining hands with aggrieved former Congress leaders Mr A.H. Vishwanath and Mr V. Srinivasprasad to consolidate the anti-Congress votes against him in Chamundeswari, he said he had no rivals and would not worry if someone opposed him or united to defeat him. “No technique can change public opinion. I have trust in the people,” he said.

Reacting to Mr Srinivasprasad's statement that he had enough free time and would ensure Siddaramaiah’s defeat, he said, "He is speaking out of frustration. No matter what they do, they can't defeat me. I am not worried about their tactics (thanthra) or manthra, they won't change public opinion.”

Lashing out at BJP, he said, “BJP leaders came and sat in Mysuru with money bags during the 2006 by election in Varuna which I contested but what happened? The more they try to defeat me, the stronger I will become. Nothing can stop me.” Lashing out at former Mysuru MP Mr Vishwanath, now in JD(S), he said, “Some people say they helped me joint Congress. But can those who did not have any value in the Congress, help me join the party? It is Mr Peeran from Bengaluru who helped me join the Congress.” The CM announced ZP member D Ravikumar as the candidate for KR Nagar constituency.
