Oommen Chandy demands discipline

Former CM to meet high command, express dissent.

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday made a subtle attack on the Opposition leadership hours before leaving for Delhi to meet Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to express his dissent over the selection of DCC presidents and demand organisational polls.

Mr Chandy while addressing the UDF leadership meet in Kottayam said protests staged by the Opposition in the state should keep discipline and should ensure people’s participation.

Mr Chandy had been staying away from the meetings of party's decision-making bodies after the appointment of DCC presidents. He also did not attend the KPCC’s political affairs committee meet held here last week.

Meanwhile, Congress Working Committee (CWC) member A.K. Antony has cautioned senior leaders against infighting and asked them to keep off flatterers to the best of interest of the party.

The internal quarrel should be settled to increase the mass base of the party. The leaders should function in a realistic way so as to attract youth to the party. They will not join the party if the leaders are at loggerheads.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, however, expressed confidence that all the issues would be solved after Mr Chandy’s visit to Delhi.
