Wait for the upheaval post bypolls: Dinesh Gundurao

Gundurao says anything can happen after results but rules out tie-up with JD(S) for now.

Raichur: Predicting a huge win for the Congress party in the coming bypolls, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dinesh Gundurao on Wednesday claimed there could be a major change on the state’s political scene following the December 5 byelections.

Responding to a question , he told reporters here, “Definitely, the Congress has bright prospects in the bypolls and could win all 15 seats. The outcome of the byelections will have an impact on the state government. The BJP is in dire straits and cannot win even two or three seats. Its government will be compelled to resign.”

On how the Congress expected to return to power without the support of the JD(S), which seemed to be leaning towards the BJP, Mr Gundu Rao said, “We have neither broached the subject with the JD(S) nor discussed it within our party. I don’t want to comment on the statements of JD(S) leaders. Our stand is that due to the dictatorial attitude of the BJP, the entire nation is in crisis and we have to wage a war to dislodge it. In politics nothing is ruled out, anything can happen after the announcement of by-election results. Even general elections could be declared.”

He , however ruled out any tie- up with the JD(S) for the by-polls. Mr Gundu Rao, who later addressed party workers at a event to mark the takeover of Mr B V Naik as District Congress Committee president, made a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of creating an atmosphere of “fear” in the country.

“Even the media is afraid of raising its voice against Mr Modi,” he remarked.

Later, Congress leaders took out a march from the Congress office to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to protest the “failure” of the Union government in addressing the problems of the country’s people.
