Telangana government is financially ill, says Opposition parties

Though the Centre released the subsidy amount, the government is sitting on it, says Dr Janardhan Reddy said.

Hyderabad: Opposition parties have stepped up their attack on TRS government, especially on the financial position of the state.

BJP legislators and leaders on Thursday staged a dharna in front of the ‘C Block’ housing the CMO in the Secretariat, demanding the TS government release Rs 791 crore provided by the Centre towards subsidy to farmers, besides release of instalment of loan waiver scheme.

Elsewhere, Congress working president Bhatti Vikramarka, MLC P. Sudhakar Reddy and TD leader Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy demanded the government release white paper on the financial position of the state following curbs on welfare schemes besides aid to farmers, including cotton growers.

BJLP leader G. Kishan Reddy, N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, Ramachander Rao, C. Ramachandra Reddy, Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Baddam Bal Reddy and others staged a dharna and later met Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate release of subsidy and succour to farmers.

“Though the Centre released the subsidy amount, the government is sitting on it. Farmers are in dire straits following recent heavy rains and crop loss. We will fight till the government releases subsidy, instalment of loan waiver scheme and other relief to farmers,” Dr Janardhan Reddy said.

He alleged that Central funds were diverted for other purposes. Police swung into action and arrested the protesting BJP leaders. Meanwhile, the TS TD demanded the government release a white paper on the state’s financial position.

“KCR claims the financial position of the state is good. If that is the case, why curbs on welfare schemes? The government has post-haste carved out new districts despite protests from people. Though KCR promised an all-party meet before issuing the final notification for new districts, he ignored us,” Mr Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy alleged.

He also took a dig at the CM’s family members, saying, “Daughter has gone to Kuwait, son to US and father to his farmhouse.”

CPI leader Chada Venkat Reddy alleged that that the new districts lacked “scientific approach” and wondered why the government, which issued notification for 27 districts, increased the number to 31, “in a jiffy”.
