Parties ran away from debate: KT Rama Rao

The IT minister said the Opposition had run away from the Assembly when the government was ready to discuss power issues.

Hyderabad: The TRS is ready for an election any time as it has fulfilled all the promises it made to the people, said IT minister K.T. Rama Rao even as he questioned if the BJP-led Central government has the courage to go for early elections as it has hinted.

Without taking the name of Congress leader Revanth Reddy, Mr Rama Rao said, “We are not obligated to respond to the baseless allegations made by the persons who went to jail on corruption charges and are now talking about clean politics and corruption-free administration.”

The IT minister said the Opposition had “run away” from the Assembly when the government was ready to discuss power issues.

He said after bifurcation, when Telangana state was suffering from a huge power deficit, power-surplus Andhra Pradesh did not come to its aid despite many requests. It was only after the TS government made alternative arrangements to purchase power that the AP government came forward but by that time it was of no use.

He reminded the Opposition that the same leaders who are now making a hue and cry about power purchase deals defended the AP government when TS was in a crisis.

He said there would be no all-party meeting on the proposed amendments to the Panchayati Raj Act. He said the Bill can be discussed when it is introduced in the Assembly.
