No Lambadas on tribal darbar dais at Nagoba temple

The Mesram clan Adivasis of the Nagoba temple have also decided against inviting Lambada leaders and MLAs for the darbar.

KESLAPUR (ADILABAD): The Adivasi community has decided not to allow minister A. Chandulal, legislators and political leaders of the Lambada community to sit on the dais of the official darbar at the Nagoba temple in Indravelli mandal to be held on January 19.

The Mesram clan Adivasis of the Nagoba temple have also decided against inviting Lambada leaders and MLAs for the darbar.

The darbar is organised by the state government. The members of the Lambada community can offer prayers at the temple like any other devotees.

This decision has taken in the wake of the rift between the two communities. The Adivasis are demanding that the Centre and the state government remove the Lam-badas from the ST list.

Nagoba temple Kotada (priest) Mesram Koserao, said they would not allow Lambada MLAs and other elected representatives including minister Azmeera Chandulal to sit on the dais of the darbar to be organised officially by the state government at the Nagoba temple on January 19.

The darbar was meant for the Adivasis and was a place to redress problems being faced by them and the event was no way concerned with the Lambada leaders, he said.

They have no objection to non-tribal leaders and elected representatives sitting on the dais as guests.

Some Adivasi leaders threatened to attack the Lambada MLAs and elected leaders if they sit on the dais.

Thudum Debba state president Soyam Bapurao said Adivasi organisations were planning to organise a ‘Adivasi Chalo Delhi’ programme towards the end of February to mount pressure on the Centre to concede their demand.

No Lambada MLA or political leader was present on January 11 at the observation of the 31st death anniversary of the anthropologist Van Furer Haimondorf and his wife Betti Elizabeth at Marlavai in Jainoor mandal in Kumaram-bheem Asifabad district.

It is learnt that Lambada leaders and MLAs avoided the Haimondorf programme following information that the Adivasis may create an embarrassing situation for them.
