Pinarayi should resign, says VM Sudheeran

Sudheeran says law & order situation in state has broken down.

Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan alleging that the law and order situation in the state had broken down in the wake of the political killings in Kannur.

The Political Affairs Committee of the Congress, which met here on Wednesday, blamed the LDF government, especially the home department under the chief minister, for the spreading spectre of violence in the state.

Mr Sudheeran alleged that the government had failed to ensure peace and security for the people. The CPM and the BJP should stop playing the bloody game, he said and added that the government’s face had been disfigured within four months of its rule. “The police are inactive and trying to trap Congress activists in fake cases. The repeated political killings in Kannur show this,” he said.

The meeting demanded that Industries Minister E. P. Jayarajan, who has been caught in the nepotism row, should resign, or should be ousted from the cabinet. Legal action should be initiated against him, Mr Sudheeran said.

The committee decided to hold an Assembly march on October 17, when the session resumes, seeking the resignation of Mr Jayarajan.

The meeting, which was also attended by NSUI president Amrita Dhawan and AICC secretary in charge of NSUI Girish Chodankar, sought the recommendations of the 21-member PAC regarding the structural changes for the KSU elections.

The majority of the members said that the existing election set-up will not produce the desired results and demanded structural changes.

“The NSUI president and AICC secretary will give a detailed report to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the mode of elections. The central leadership is expected to revert in a week’s time,” said a PAC leader.

Meanwhile, the AICC leadership has summoned KPCC leadership to New Delhi for party revamp talks. Chennithala will be holding talks with the party leadership on Thursday while Sudheeran will be reaching Delhi on Friday or Saturday.
