The Mayor said that given the size of GHMC's council it would be risky to hold a meeting with people sitting closely in an enclosed space

Hyderabad: Citing the alarming rise of Covid19 cases, the GHMC has decided to hold virtual meetings for the newly elected council.

In a brief conversation, Mayor Gadwal R. Vijayalakshmi said that to begin with a weekly meeting with all 150 corporators will be held virtually. “This would be the first of its kind virtual meeting in the GHMC's history,” she said.

The Mayor said that given the size of the GHMC's council it would be risky to hold a meeting with people sitting in close proximity in an enclosed space. "It would not only put the 150 corporators at risk but also the public whom they interact with on a daily basis,” she said adding, that the first virtual general body meeting would be held in May.

Meanwhile, the GHMC headquarters have suffered many Covid-19 cases. At least 10 persons have tested positive in the second, third, fourth, fifth and six floors. The corporation has been sanitising the premises and asking staff to work from home.
