TTV Dhinakaran complains against CoP, intel chief

Dhinakaran told reporters that the state machinery was being misused for RK Nagar by polls.

Chennai: AIADMK rebel leader TTV Dhinakaran on Monday lodged a complaint with chief electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni alleging that the city police commissioner A. K. Viswanathan and state intelligence (Inspector General) K N. Sathyamoorthy were behaving like ruling party functionaries in helping the AIADMK candidate in RK Nagar.

In his complaint, Dhinakaran said that the police were trying to help the ruling party by arresting his supporters and taking steps to thwart the peaceful campaign led by his followers. “Ten of my supporters have been picked up by police personnel attached to four different police stations in north Chennai and booked under various sections. The idea is to disrupt my campaign”, he said in his complaint. The independent candidate also demanded the transfer of city police commissioner and state intelligence chief. “Only, if those biased officials were shunted out there can be a free and fair poll in RK Nagar”, the complainant added.

Dhinakaran told reporters that the state machinery was being misused for RK Nagar by polls. “The police frequent the houses of my supporters during late nights and early mornings to threaten those who campaign for my “pressure cooker” symbol. “There are senior officers visiting RK Nagar in mufti and I do not know what business they have in RK Nagar. I am warning the uniformed officers to behave and stay away from politics. And if this continues, I will drag such errant officers to the court and will see that they are unceremoniously removed from their posts”, he said.

When asked whether was hoping action for his complaints from the CEO, Dhinarakan said, “I am positive and I hope that the CEO Lakhoni will take steps to conduct the by election in a free and fair manner”, he said.
