Bihar crisis: Nitish Kumar shuts door on Sharad Yadav

K.C. Tyagi said Mr Ansari has been suspended for attending the meeting despite the party severing its ties with the Congress-led UPA.

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar on Friday virtually shut the door on any reconciliation with rebel leader Sharad Yadav, saying he is free to take any decision as the alliance with the BJP had the entire party’s nod.

“He (Yadav) is free to take his decision. As far as the party is concerned, it has already taken its decision. The decision was not mine alone and it was taken with the consent of the party. If he keeps a different opinion, then he is free to do so,” Nitish told reporters.

Earlier, Mr Nitish met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah as his party prepares to join the NDA after forming the government in the state in alliance with the saffron party. It was Mr Kumar’s first visit to the national capital after he jettisoned the alliance with the RJD and the Congress, and sealed a tie-up with the BJP on July 26.

Meanwhile, The JD(U) suspended its Rajya Sabha member Ali Anwar Ansari from the parliamentary party for attending a meeting of opposition parties convened by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

Party spokesperson K.C. Tyagi said Mr Ansari has been suspended for attending the meeting despite the party severing its ties with the Congress-led UPA.
