P. Chidambaram, family living in fear of I-T action: Tamilisai Soundararajan

The Delhi Court gave Mr. Chidambaram protection from arrest till July 10 in the case in which ED sought time for filing a detailed reply.

Chennai: Taking a dig at Congress leader and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram’s concern for minorities, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan sought to know from him if he is invoking the minorities’ name as he was living in “fear of I-T action on his financial irregularities.”

Referring to the Aircel-Maxis cases pertaining to the grant of FIPB clearance to the firm Global Communication Holding Services Ltd in 2006 for investment in Aircel, in which Enforcement Directorate and CBI are investigating Mr. Chidambaram’s role in Rs 3,500 crore Aircel-Maxis deal, Dr Tamilisai taunted the Congress leader saying “fear of jail” is driving him to “seek bail.”

“Minorities live in fear - says ex-FM PC. Is it not true you and your family & your relatives live in fear for IT actions on your financial irregularities & unaccounted wealth abroad? fear of jail you seek bail why invoke minorities? for your fear of arrest? @Pchidambaram IN @BJP4India,” Dr. Tamilisai had tweeted.

The Delhi Court gave Mr. Chidambaram protection from arrest till July 10 in the case in which ED sought time for filing a detailed reply. His son Karti Chidambaram’s case in Aircel-Maxis case is scheduled for hearing on July 10.

“He has not denied having properties abroad and the basic allegations remain. As a lawyer, he was unable to give a proper counter,” she said. On his claims that people did not live in fear during the ten-year rule of the UPA regime, Dr Tamilisai asked, “Where was he when lakhs and lakhs of Tamils were massacred in Sri Lanka. What was his reaction? Let him first explain if he had done anything for the development of Karaikudi or if he had brought a good scheme for the well-being of Tamil Nadu.”

Only now under the BJP rule, people including Muslim women are living without trepidation, Dr Tamilisai expressed.
