We won't allow another Ayodhya: Mullappally Ramachandran

He also asked the BJP to bring in legislation to overrule the apex court.

Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran has said that the Congress party would not allow the CPM and the BJP to make Sabarimala another Ayodhya.

He also accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of threatening Travancore Devaswom Board president A. Padmakumar against seeking a review of the Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all ages at Sabarimala.

“Both the CPM and the BJP are showing double standards," he told reporters here on Tuesday in the midst of a marathon eight-hour-long meeting with DCC presidents.

"I am wondering why the CM had taken a hasty stand on Sabarimala issue when he was cautious about other verdicts. CPM is trying to create a war-like scene in Sabarimala.”

He also asked the BJP to bring in legislation to overrule the apex court.

Sources said one of the DCC presidents did not favour the party’s stand on Sabarimala.

Mr Ramachandran clarified that the stand of the AICC and KPCC is the same.

Meanwhile, the party extended the deadline for reconstituting booth committees to Oct 25 as DCC presidents wanted more time given Navratri holidays.

Majority of the DCCs have not completed the exercise, especially those in cities.
