Thrissur: KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran’s close aide T.N. Prathapan has been officially appointed as the DCC president of Thrissur by Congress High Command on Thursday. Though a section in Congress had been expecting the appointment of Mr Prathapan, it has come as a surprise for Congress functionaries in the district. Sources in the party said that the proximity of Mr Prathapan to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Mr Sudheeran has brought him the much coveted party post.
Mr Prathapan, who is at present the president of Kerala Fishermen Congress, had represented Nattika and Kodungallur Assembly constituencies in 2006 and 2011 respectively. However, it is widely believed in the party circles in Thrissur that as one from the Sudheeran group, it will be a tough going for Prathapan to work among the ‘A’ and ‘I’ group leaders here.
