AIADMK General council to meet on Nov 24

The Local Bodies polls was learnt to have also been discussed at the State Cabinet meeting in the Secretariat on Thursday.

CHENNAI: The general council and state executive meetings of the ruling AIADMK has been convened to meet a marriage hall in Vanagaram on the outskirts Chennai on Nov 24, the venue the party has chosen for such meetings in recent years.

The meeting will be chaired by the AIADMK co-coordinator and Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami and presided by the party's coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister, Mr O. Panneerselvam.

The meeting is significant as it will discuss strategies for the coming Local Bodies elections and deliberate on forming a steering committee to coordinate with allies, besides individual teams to oversee party work for the panchayat and nagarpalika elections.

This will be the first general council of the AIADMK after the expulsion of ‘Chinnamma’ Ms. Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dhinakaran by the ruling establishment, it may be pointed out.

The Local Bodies polls was learnt to have also been discussed at the State Cabinet meeting in the Secretariat on Thursday apart from other government schemes. The party meeting of senior functionaries, AIADMK MPs, MLAs' and district secretaries on Wednesday also discussed the Local Bodies elections, when the party reaffirmed its resolve to face the polls confidently.
