Thol Thirumavalavan wants PWA to fight civic polls together

Thirumavalavan said he wanted the PWA's alliance with the DMDK and TMC to continue for the bypolls to Aravakurichi, Thanjavur and Thirupparankundram.

Chennai: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol. Thirumavalavan on Tuesday denied that he had said that People's Welfare Alliance was not necessary for local body and clarified that he had said that an alliance with the AIADMK or DMK is not needed for VCK in the civic polls.

In an interview to a Tamil eveninger, Thirumavalavan said when a reporter asked if the VCK would go to the AIADMK or DMK front for the local body elections, I replied that such an alliance was not necessary for civic polls. The question was about an alliance with the two Dravidian parties for the civic polls and not about the PWA front. Thirumavalavan said he wanted the PWA's alliance with the DMDK and TMC to continue for the bypolls to Aravakurichi, Thanjavur and Thirupparankundram.

Reacting to a question on reports of DMDK and TMC snapping ties with the PWA, the VCK leader said the two parties were not a part of the PWA, which only had electoral adjustment with them. So, they had the right to decided on their future, but my party wanted the six-party alliance to continue.

He also asserted that the alliance should continue for the Parliament elections, while replying to a question if his party would form an alliance with the AIADMK for the Lok Sabha polls. Even if the six parties contested alone in the local body elections depending on the circumstances, it would not affect the continuance of the front for the Parliament elections.

"If the DMK had consented to coalition government, Vijayakanth would have joined hands with the DMK helping the latter to form the government in the State. The anti-AIADMK votes were split by the PMK too. The DMK's objective was to form a government on its own and so it failed to concentrate in splitting of anti-AIADMK votes".
