Congress men divided over Kutami's fate

While reviewing Lok Sabha constituencies, the party is getting mixed responses from party leaders on the alliance.

Hyderabad: Congress leaders are divided on continuing the alliance with Prajakutami parties for the Lok Sabha elections. While reviewing Lok Sabha constituencies, the party is getting mixed responses from party leaders on the alliance.

Mr Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s statement that the alliance with the Telugu Desam ruined the party’s chances in the recent Assembly polls has found support from former minister Ms D.K. Aruna. She said the Congress should go it alone in the Lok Sabha elections, as the people of Telangana had not accepted their alliance with the Telugu Desam.

“Before the recent Assembly elections, we had pointed out the same, but TPCC leaders did not care for our words. It will prove costly if we continue with the alliance for the Parliament elections too,” Ms Aruna said.

But Congress MLA Mr Jagga Reddy had a different take. Requesting the Medak Lok Sabha seat for his wife Nirmala, Mr Reddy said the alliance should continue for the Parliament polls too. He said: “YSRC followers voted for the TRS as the Congress joined hands with the Telugu Desam. The tickets for the Lok Sabha candidates should be announced in February. But the alliance should continue. Other parties in the Prajakutami are confused after observing various statements from Congress leaders. The parties will prepare the ground for Parliament polls after the Congress clarifies on the alliance.”
