Thiruvananthapuram: The politburo commission report on veteran leader V S Achuthanandan will be taken up at the central committee which is currently in session here. The report is likely to be taken up for discussion on Sunday.
The Commission is not in favour of any strict disciplinary action against the veteran leader as it wants to strengthen the party to face emerging challenges. It is also felt that the issues taken by the commission were old and not quite relevant in today’s context. Moreover, the commission wants to uphold the spirit of the Vishakhapatnam Party Congress directive to ensure unity in party.
However, a section of central leadership wants action even if it is in a mild form, against the veteran leader on the basis of the findings of the commission. The decision is now left to the central committee.
The six member PB commission comprising Prakash Karat, S Ramachandran Pillai, Sitaram Yechury, Nirupam Sen, B V Raghavulu and A K Padmanabhan was constituted in May 2013 to look into the organizational issues referred by the Kerala unit.
The six-member panel was set up to look into allegations and counter allegations levelled by the state leadership and Achuthanandan. The state committee had accused Achuthanandan of repeatedly violating party discipline, raising allegations of corruption against Pinarayi in the SNC Lavalin in violation of party stand and skipping crucial party meetings.
On the other hand, Achuthanandan had complained about alleged authoritarian and vindictive attitude of state leadership including Pinarayi Vijayan.
