Congress trio seeks time to revamp the party

Mr Sudheeran also added that as per the high power committee's recommendation AICC leadership will come to a favourable decision.

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran and Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala have sent a memorandum to the AICC leadership seeking time to revamp the party.

Even though the AICC appointed a high-power Political Affairs Committee (PAC) having 21 members, these three leaders are still calling the shots by keeping the rest of the members in the dark.

Congress sources told this newspaper that it was Mr Chandy and Mr Chennithala who signed the memorandum first. However, when Mr Sudheeran joined them on Wednesday at the UDF meeting held at Cantontment House, he also obliged as he was keen to ensure his seat as the party chief. It is reliably learnt that the three senior leaders want the revamp to take place after Diwali so as to buy more time.

Majority of the other PAC members, especially K. Muraleedharan, V.D. Satheeshan and younger crop of Congress leaders in the PAC, are peeved with these three leaders for the inordinate delay in holding the organisational elections.

“Even after the AICC appointed the PAC, there is still no respite to the way in which these three senior leaders take over the issues in the party. Majority of the PAC leaders are peeved with the trio for keeping them in dark and them taking a collective decision on party revamping,” said a prominent Congress leader.

It should be recalled that on Monday, after the second sitting of the PAC meeting, Mr Sudheeran had told reporters that AICC leadership has informed that it will be the DCC presidents who will be removed in the first stage. He also informed that recommendation on the new crop of DCC presidents’ names would have to be given to directly to AICC general secretary in charge of state, Mukul Wasnik as well as the PAC.

Mr Sudheeran also added that as per the high power committee’s recommendation AICC leadership will come to a favourable decision.
