Captain will not back out of PWA alliance: Premalatha

Raja cited the Kanchipuram party conference to assert that the cadre wanted Vijayakanth to be the king' and not a kingmaker'.

Chennai: In a strong reaction, Vijayakanth’s wife Premalatha who is campaigning for the party, hit out at the rebels and said Captain would not back out from what he had decided and the DMDK-PWA alliance would remain strong.

Meanwhile, two of the MLAs Mohanraj and A.T.K, Raja, who are said to be with dissident leader Chandrakumar denied that they are supporting him. One of the district secretaries Dinesh (Tiruppur) also denied that he is part of the dissident team, while three district secretaries who were claiming to be with the dissidence did not react.

Raja cited the Kanchipuram party conference to assert that the cadre wanted Vijayakanth to be the ‘king’ and not a ‘kingmaker’. “Captain is the face of the party and people will vote for him. Not a single cadre will go with Chandrakumar and the six district secretaries”, Mohanraj said. Hitting out at the dissidents, MDMK leader Vaiko said betrayers had stabbed Vijayakanth on his back and they have sold themselves. “This is an indecent job by the DMK. People will make the final decision”, he added.

Denying Vaiko’s charge, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin said the MDMK leader’s allegation was absurd and he is defaming the DMK. Stalin said he did not have to reply to the internal affairs of the DMDK. CPM state secretary G. Ramakrishnan also joined Vaiko in the charge against DMK and said the DMK is conspiring to break the DMDK-PWA alliance. However, Congress spokesperson A. Gopanna said the dissidence was a blow to Vijayakanth’s wife Premalatha who prevented the DMDK from joining the DMK-Congress alliance.
Two of the MLAs Mohanraj and A.T.K. Raja who were earlier said to be with Chandrakumar also denied that they are with Chandrakumar.
