Not again! Rahul Gandhi loses cool for translation flaw

Mr Gandhi usually addresses in Hindi and English.

Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi has finally become aware that his speeches are being translated incorrectly. Mr Gandhi has identified that his speech is not going to the public exactly, since the translators are not being able to convey his message. The AICC president lost his temper and was annoyed with Gadwal Congress candidate and former minister D.K. Aruna for her inadequate translation.

Mr Gandhi usually addresses in Hindi and English. However, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee thought that most people from Telangana can understand Hindi rather than English and this made Mr Gandhi address the gatherings in Hindi. Since all the candidates are busy with their election campaigning, the candidates of the constituency were translating Mr Gandhi’s speeches into Telugu.

Ms Aruna is not the first candidate who has translated Mr Gandhi’s words wrongly in Telugu. Revanth Reddy in Kosgi of Kodangal constituency, Rammohan Reddy in Parigi constituency and Bhatti Vikramarka in Khammam has translated the Congress president’s speeches incorrectly earlier. Only former minister Sridhar Babu in Bhupalpally and Sravan Dasoju in Kamareddy, Medchal have given an exact translation for Mr Gandhi.

Ms Aruna was observed to be nervous on stage as Mr Gandhi lost his cool at Gadwal on Monday. There were many flaws in the translation from the beginning. However, Mr Gandhi identified the flaws when Ms Aruna said, “If BJP waives the loan of '3 lakh crore for 15 lakh farmers then Congress will waive the loans of farmers to” as a translation for “BJP waived the loan of Rs 3 lakh crore for 15 rich people, but Congress will waive the same Rs 3 lakh crore for farmers,” is what Mr Gandhi had said.

Mr Gandhi immediately stopped his speech, lost his cool and questioned R.C. Khuntia and Uttam Kumar Reddy about the translation flaws. Ms Aruna informed Mr Gandhi that there was a problem in the audio speakers and she had not understood what he had said and continued the translation with the flaws.

Earlier in a public meeting at Kosgi in Kodangal constituency last week, Mr Revanth Reddy had also made several flaws.

For instance, he said that “Telangana is in profit”, translating “Telangana is now in debts,” statement of Mr Gandhi. Even Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka made the same mistake. When it comes to perfection, Parigi candidate Mr Rammohan stands at the bottom of the list with too many flaws in translation. The TPCC has failed in appointing a translator and the messages of Mr Gandhi are not being transferred to the people correctly.
