Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his Assembly election campaign meeting to bat for the general elections scheduled for 2019. In an hour-long speech, he compared the progress India has witnessed in the four years under the NDA-led government to the two terms of the UPA government led by the Congress.
He called the Opposition at the Centre a remote-controlled party and BJP a people’s democratic party.
“In four years, the BJP built 1.5 crore houses, the owners celebrated the last Diwali in their newly built homes. The UPA government in two full terms built only 17 lakh houses and in Telangana state, only 5,000 houses were constructed. There is a striking difference in the progress that the nation witnessed during the NDA and UPA governance,” Modi said.
Comparing the past with the present, Mr Modi said, “Atal Behari Vajpayee granted separate states like Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. These states progressed rapidly because of leadership and governance. But in Telangana, the state suffered in the last five years thanks to one family that has destroyed the state.
Telangana can only progress if there is a change in the government. There cannot be growth without development and the BJP is the only party with no selfish motive.”
“Political parties accuse me of spreading lies. In Telangana, the TRS government built 5000 houses when they promised to give shelter to one lakh people. NDA reduced the cost of LED lights, made data and call costs cheap, does anyone now give a missed call? The BJP government gave a boost to the start-up industry in India, loans no longer need a list of guarantees,” he added.
“Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which was rejected in Telangana, 3 lakh people who were suffering from critical health issues were benefited and have been able to receive treatment in corporate hospitals. Medium scale businessmen have been sanctioned loans of up to Rs 5 lakh.”
