5,158 special buses for Pongal from January 11

Transport minister. when asked about the increasing number of accidents, said a fund of Rs 60 crore has been allotted to reduce the accident rate.

Chennai: This Pongal, the Tamil Nadu transport department would operate a total of 5,158 special buses from January 11 to 13 and moffusil buses scheduled to leave on these dates from Koyambedu have been diverted to different bus terminuses to avoid traffic congestion.

All Andhra bound buses will ply from Anna Nagar west bus stand and buses going to Puducherry, Cuddalore and Chidambaram via ECR will depart from Saidapet Court Bus Stop.

Operation of all buses bound for Kumbakonam and beyond, Thanjavur via Tindivanam, Vikkravandy, Panruti (including SETC) will depart from Arignar Anna Bus Stand, Tambaram-Sanatorium (MEPZ).

The buses heading to Arcot, Arani, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupathur and Hosur via Poonamallee will depart from Poonamallee Bus Stand. Also, buses from CMBT, Koyambedu will ply via Maduravoyal, Poonamallee,

Nazarathpet, outer ring road, Vandalur instead of Tambaram, Perungalathur.
State transport minister MR Vijayabhaskar said in addition to 2,275 scheduled buses from Chennai, a total of 5,158 special buses would be operated during the period.

“While 796 special buses would work on January 11, 1980 and 2382 special buses would be operated on 12 and 13 this month”, he added. For the ease of public for reservation of tickets, a total of 29 special ticket booking counters - 26 in Koyambedu, two in Tambaram Sanatorium and one in Poonamalle-will function from January 9.
