Mysuru ZP: JD(S), BJP back to resort politics

The election to the post of ZP chairperson in Mysuru is due on May 7.

Mysuru: With the eagles hovering around, waiting to pounce on their flock, the JD(S) and BJP, which are likely to strike an alliance to retain power in Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, have moved their ZP members to Eagleton resort in Bengaluru.

They fear that the Congress party, which has fallen short of just three seats in its bid to seize power in the prestigious ZP in the CM’s hometown, may run away with their members upsetting their plans.

The election to the post of ZP chairperson in Mysuru is due on May 7. The Congress has 22 members in the 49-member ZP while JD(S) has 18 and BJP, 8. All JD(S) and BJP members have been moved to Eagleton.

According to sources, leaders of JD(S) and BJP held discussions on Monday evening to finalise a common candidate for the post of ZP chairperson. In all probability, a JD(S) member is likely to be selected for the key post.

Speaking to mediapersons, BJP leader and former minister Mr S.A. Ramdas defended the move and said, “We have already decided on a tie-up with JD(S) but our candidates are being unnecessarily pressurised by the Congress. We have no option but to move our members to a resort.”

JD(S) leader Sa Ra Mahesh too defended the move and told mediapersons, “Since Mysuru is Mr Siddaramaiah’s hometown, the Congress will go to any extent to hold on to power in the ZP.

JD(S) members reached the resort Sunday night and on Monday morning, they were joined by BJP members. I and JD(S) leader Mr G.T. Devegowda will reach the resort on Monday night and will be joined by JD(S) state president H.D. Kumaraswamy.”
