Drop move to affiliate CICT with Central varsity: TN CM

“Government of India has already sanctioned Rs 24 crore and the Central Public Works Department has already commenced the civil works,â€he said.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday urged the Centre to drop any move to affiliate the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) with the Central University, Thiruvarur (CIT) or any other varsity; and instead protect the autonomous character of the institute.

“It would be prudent to initiate steps to strengthen this institute, so that it would graduate as a centre of research and learning in Classical Tamil,” Mr Palaniswami said in a letter to Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, on Thursday. He said the state government had already handed over 17 acres of land at Perumbakkam in Kanchipuram district to construct a permanent building for CICT.

“Government of India has already sanctioned Rs 24 crore and the Central Public Works Department has already commenced the civil works,” he said.
