Pondicherry law to help get 50 per cent seats from pvt medical colleges

Alleging that PG seats were being sold for very high amounts, Mr Anbazhagan suggested that a uniform fee structure be introduced to stop this.

Puducherry: The Puducherry government will examine the possibility of enacting a legislation to get 50 per cent seats from private medical colleges as government quota, said Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy in the House.

Replying to a question raised by Congress legislator MNR Balan, the Chief Minister said that the union government is yet to give any direction on the admission of students based on the National Eligibility Entrance Test (Neet).

The Puducherry government had obtained 283 seats from private medical colleges and had written to them seeking at least 10 percent seats for Puducherry students who have passed Neet. A meeting was held with medical college representatives and parents’ association in this regard, he said.

While raising the question Mr Balan said that government should cancel the non-objection certificate (NOC) of medical colleges who fail to honour the agreement with government that they will part 50 per cent seats with government. ‘

AIADMK legislator party leader A. Anbazhagan who supported the decision to enact a legislation said that out of a total 258 PG seats, colleges were not ready to share even a single seat with government.

Alleging that PG seats were being sold for very high amounts, Mr Anbazhagan suggested that a uniform fee structure be introduced to stop this.
