Tirupati: Gambler tries to sell his organs

The incident took place at the Sub-Collector’s office in Madanapalle town in Chittoor district on Monday.

Tirupati: The district administration of Chittoor was shocked when a 25-year-old man approached them during the Spandana programme, requesting that he be permitted to sell his organs to help those who needed them and also raise money to perform his sister's marriage.

The incident took place at the Sub-Collector’s office in Madanapalle town in Chittoor district on Monday. The young man, Kommaddi Bavajan, from Kurabalakota mandal in Chittoor district, is a high-school drop-out and is allegedly addicted to gambling.

On Monday morning, he appealed to the district sub-collector, Chekuri Keerthi, to allow him to sell his organs to those who may need them.

According to him, he was a pro in gambling and earned a handsome amount, but lost everything. He admitted he had been gambling for the past decade and confessed to have ruined several families with his gambling tactics.

“I have a habit of winning any game in gambling, which has not only ruined my life but also ruined many other lives,” he confessed.

“I do not have any education or skill to be employed by anyone. My family and neighbours also started hating me as I have become useless. Now, I want to wipe off my past for a noble cause by donating my organs which would also help me raise some money for my family,” Bavajaan told the sub-collector.

Shocked at this unusual plea, Ms Keerthi rejected his request, but assured him that the government will help him find a job after he learns a skill through a skill development programme.

She also instructed officials to enquire into the young man’s unusual request, ordered medical tests, and told them to talk to his parents to inquire into the matter. Meanwhile, Bavajaan’s father Mr Rahmathulla, said his son was speaking out of ignorance.
