Historians relish memories in city

HYDERABAD: Yaadein baatein society , a city collective, held a talk on memories and history of Hyderabad at Oxford Grammar High School, Himayatnagar on Monday. Several historians and academicians took part in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, historian Ghayasuddin Akber said, “Hyderabad’s history and memories make us emotional and its unique structures like clock towers are very attractive. The Secunderabad clock tower was built in 1860 and it was the first clock tower in the city. Then other clock towers were constructed at Charminar, Shalibanda, St. Joseph Cathedral, Basheerbagh and many more.”

Academician Prof. Mohammad Masood Ahmed said, “We should not forget the past as it helps one to perform, progress and prosper in life. Some of the interesting facts about the city are, it had its own postal service in 1856, in 1939 radio was established in the city, in 1930, Hyderabad was the best electrified city in the country.” Masood added that Hyderabad was very rich in culture and history which should be taught to youngsters to keep them alive.
