Kerala to blow final whistle on shakhas at temples

Kadakampally Surendran says temple premises are not weapon training and dumping centres for RSS

Thiruvananthapuram: Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran on Monday warned that RSS and other organisations will not be allowed to misuse Devaswom board temple premises for weapons training and dumping of arms. The minister said anti social and communal elements would not be permitted to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere and secular environment. “I have received many complaints regarding the misuse and unauthorised activities of RSS in and around temples. In fact I have been receiving such complaints almost on a daily basis,” he said.

“We will allay the fears of the people regarding the misuse of temple. We will not allow arms training and dumping of arms in the garb of religious activities,” he said. He said the temples are the Centres of devotees and customs. RSS was now trying to keep the believers out of bounds from temples by storing weapons and conducting arms training at these places. When contacted, Devaswom Board president Prayar Gopalakrishnan said that he had not come across the statement issued by the minister.

“I have not received any complaint as of now. Let me collect the details. I am not saying what the minister pointed out is right or wrong,” he said and added that he would look into the matter. Meanwhile, BJP state president dared the minister to show a single RSS shakha where arms training and arms dumping were taking place. The government might even come out with a direction tomorrow seeking a ban on rituals and poojas in temples.
