Fear of COVID relapse looms after Mandya woman tests positive post recovery

A pregnant woman who returned from Mumbai to Hosapenjalli in Hunsur tested positive for Covid-19

Fear of relapse of Covid 19 has loomed large after a pregnant woman who was tested positive, cured and discharged in Mandya district, tested positive when she came for delivery at Cheluvamba women and children hospital in Mysuru.

Meanwhile amid all the gloom it is triple joy for Mysuru with doctors of Cheluvamba hospital here performing delivery of three Covid 19 positive pregnant women (including KRPet case) successfully since last week.

Interestingly one pregnant woman from Bannur taluk in Mysuru district who was not tested positive for Covid 19 earlier, tested positive before her delivery in Mysuru.

According to Medical superintendent of Cheluvamba hospital, Dr Pramila, the pregnant woman who had returned from Mumbai to KRPet in Mandya district was tested positive for Covid 19 on 23 May. She was treated at designated hospital in Mandya district, cured and discharged after her two samples were tested negative for Covid 19. While she had been to a hospital for delivery in Mandya district, she was referred to Cheluvamba hospital in Mysuru.

As per ICMR guidelines, all pregnant women above 37 weeks must be tested for Covid 19 especially for those with symptoms of Coronavirus and if they come from containment zone, before delivery. So since KRPet woman's reports mentioned that she was tested positive for Covid 19 earlier, they took her throat swab and she was tested positive for Covid 19 on 17 June and she was isolated at Covid hospital in Mysuru. Team of nine members successfully performed her delivery at Cheluvamba hospital and she delivered a baby boy weighing 2.7kgs at 3.27pm on 21 June at Cheluvamba hospital. The baby is tested negative for Covid 19, she said.

While the doctors at Cheluvamba have successfully done deliveries of two more pregnant women who were tested positive for Covid 19, on Saturday night, a pregnant woman from Bannur taluk in Mysuru district who had come to Cheluvamba hospital in Mysuru for delivery, was tested positive for Covid 19 when they got her tested before her delivery. She was not tested positive earlier. She delivered baby girl weighing 2.5kgs at 11.28 pm on Saturday. And yet another pregnant woman from KR Nagar was already tested positive for Covid 19 and was referred to Cheluvamba hospital. She delivered baby boy weighing 3.2kgs at 2.30am on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, 8 months pregnant woman who had returned from Mumbai to Hosapenjalli in Hunsur taluk in Mysuru district, tested positive for Covid 19 on 5 June. She was treated at Covid hospital in Mysuru and after her first sample was tested negative, she was discharged after 7 days as per latest discharge policy. But her 5 year old daughter tested positive after her discharge on 18 June and she is cured and discharged. Yet since her child was tested positive for Covid 19, the sample of pregnant woman has been drawn again for testing on Monday.

So far Mysuru has recorded 255 cases including 27 cops and two health care workers, two deaths and 89 cases are active. And Mandya has recorded 406 cases and 67 are active.
