Government adopts strict measures to contain pandemic

Under the present quarantine norms the travellers from any state who are symptomatic will undergo 7 days of hospital isolation at Covid care centre and if tested positive they will be shifted to a dedicated Covid hospital.

For the asymptomatic travellers only the Maharashtra returnees will have to undergo institutional quarantine for a week followed by seven days of home quarantine. The special category asymptomatic person which includes pregnant women, children of the age of 10 and below, elderly aged 60 and above, serious illness, death in the family, human distress, will be sent to home quarantine with one attendant and the testing will be done on the fifth or seventh day of arrival.

The returnees from other states will have to undergo home quarantine for fourteen days and if a family large or the returnee is from a slum or over crowded area they will be put under institutional quarantine.

The transit travellers by road will be hand stamped ‘Transit Traveller’.

Everyday, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagare Palike (BBMP) registers more than 2,500 cases of violations of not wearing the mask and observing social distancing.

The commissioner of Police, Bhaskar Rao has stated on social media, “DCPs n BBMP are on streets to enforce wearing of masks and Social distancing. Warnings now, criminal cases will follow.Urge every Bangalurean to enforce mask enforcement and SD. If people argue call 100, we are ready to respond to your calls. RWA and Traders Please Donate Masks to underprivileged.”

“Shops, malls, banks, hotels, offices, and establishments. All of you are already aware of precautions to be taken. If you do not implement mask wearing and ensure safe distance,CityPolice will raid and initiate legal action, this has already started, it’s in in Public Interest,” the commissioner tweeted.

However, there have been several cases across the city where the returnees from states other than Maharashtra are not being allowed to go for home quarantine as the neighbours are not comfortable.

“I am staying in Bihar and a few days ago my house owner said that home quarantine can be done at the house. But my neighbours objected and said that she would protest if such a thing happens. Her point of worry is that since there has been a surge in the number of cases any person undergoing home quarantine would spread infection. This is in complete violation of the BBMP guidelines,” said Priyaranjan who stays at Bannerghatta road in Bengaluru and has been staying at his native in Buxar for the past three months.

The BBMP has notified five more Covid care centres where symptomatic persons and those with mild symptoms can be monitored. The new facilities will have 1,600 beds and the civic agency is mulling over to convert the hostels of engineering colleges as Covid care centres.

In this matter, the Palike has already initiated the inspection of Covid hostels.
