Cochin International Airport Ltd warns online fraudsters

The airport company handed over all complaints received so far on the issue to the police.

Kochi: The Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) issued a warning on Friday against an online fraud misusing its name following a series of complaints from victims in the past couple of days. Many people seem to have lost money after falling into the trap that cars for sale have been parked at the airport and those interested may stake claim by paying an advance.

The racket has put out the advertisement of a luxury car for sale on the online portal OLX. The latest to fall victim is a doctor who rang up the number given in the ad. A woman pretending to be airport employee answered and claimed the car was stationed at the airport parking lot and that he could see the vehicle.
She goes on to add the deal would be made later in the evening owing to busy official engagements. However, the racket member asks the victims to pay a fixed amount as advance through a bank account, an airport official said.

Many victims claimed to have paid Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh as advance. Airport director A.C.K. Nair said that neither the airport company nor any of its employees have made any such advertisement.

The airport company handed over all complaints received so far on the issue to the police. ?We?ll also file a separate cheating case at the Nedumbassery police station,? the official said.
