Wind up New Year party by 1 am, Chennai cops tell hoteliers

Hotel authorities have been directed to take up all preventive measures ahead of the celebrations so that no untoward incidents take place, it said.

Chennai: The Chennai city police have issued directions to hotels and clubs in Chennai, hosting special programmes on New Year’s eve, to wind up celebrations by 1 am.

A direction to this effect was given to hotel owners during a meeting chaired by additional commissioner of police K. Sankar, joint commissioner police (South zone) S. Anbu and joint commissioner S. Manoharan, a city police release said on Wednesday.

Hotel authorities have been directed to take up all preventive measures ahead of the celebrations so that no untoward incidents take place, it said. The advisory issued to the hotels include, checking all vehicles entering their premises and noting their registration numbers, to close swimming pools from 6 pm on December 31 to 6 am of January 1, 2017.

Police had also asked hotel and club owners to serve alcohol in only at stipulated places. No temporary stage near swimming pools, the police told delegates of hotels.

Police also advised hoteliers to get nod from related department in case of erecting stages within hotel premises. Police also asked them to make sure that there is no case of eve teasing during New Year celebrations at their premises. Hotels should make arrangements for vehicles to drop drunken customers home, police noted.

They were also asked to deploy security guards in large numbers beside surveillance cameras in the hotel premises, the release said. Besides, the police officers have warned New Year eve revellers of strict action against drunk driving. Vehicles would be seized if more than two persons are seen riding a motorcycle, they said. Police also asked revellers not to venture into the sea at the beaches on New Year’s eve night. Police also asked youngsters to avoid wheeling and racing as part of New Year celebrations.
