Kerala: Congress rebuts poser on joint fight

Chennithala told reporters after meeting Governor that the CPM need not teach Congress how to deal with the BJP.

Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF MLAs took out a march to the Raj Bhavan on Monday in protest against the centre’s action against the cooperative sector. However, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala denied that the UDF would join hands with the CPM in fighting against the central government. He told reporters after meeting Governor P. Sathasivam that the CPM need not teach Congress how to deal with the BJP. The Congress was not desperate to learn from the BJP, he said reacting to the statement of CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan criticising the Congress stand towards the saffron party.

“If there are issues within the Congress and the UDF, we know how to go forward. Kodiyeri need not intervene and we have never said that we will join hands with the CPM in the fight against the alleged assault on the co-operative sector,” said Mr Chennithala. He clarified that the only decision taken was to support the resolution passed in the Kerala Assembly. The police arrested five UDF MLAs - Chennithala, Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan, V. D. Satheesan, Dr. M. K. Muneer and Anoop Jacob--for taking out the march and released them later.
