BMTC, KSRTC staff to lose salary for three days

Services restored Both BMTC and KSRTC services returned to normalcy on Thursday.

BENGALURU: Following the three-day long bus strike, which brought the state to a standstill, thousands of BMTC and KSRTC staff now stand to lose salary for three days. According to state government sources, it has been decided to cut the salary for all the staff who took part in the strike as per the no work-no pay policy of both the corporations.

It is the policy. How can we change it? Strike is equal to being absent for duty. So we will deduct the salary of three days of all the staff, they explained.

Meanwhile, both the corporations would continue disciplinary action against the staff, who had received show-cause notices for dereliction of duty. “Even though notices were issued at the time of strike, it is related to past incidents/developments. There is no question of quashing these charges,” explained sources.

It can be recalled that H.V. Anantha Subbarao, convener, BMTC/KSRTC workers federation, who led the talks with the state government on Wednesday, had requested the officials to quash all the proceedings initiated against the staff for participating in the bandh. “But most of the staff have past issues,” explained sources.

However crew members said they would not accept any deductions in the salary. “We protested against injustice. How can corporations now threaten us in the name of loss of pay? We will raise the issue in the union meeting,” said a KSRTC driver.
