The incident occurred at the house of Anjoor Ezhuthupurakkal Rajan on Monday. His daughter-in-law Vini noticed a colour change on her jewellery after cleaning a raw fish locally called ‘para’ similar to ‘mullan’ brought to Vadakkekad from Kunnamkulam fish market buy a vendor.

“Though the family members approached TT Jewellery in Kunnamkulam from where the ornaments were purchased, they told us that some chemicals used to preserve the raw fish might have caused the colour change. A bangle, in fact, broke after its colour changed,” Roshan Anjoor, a family member, told DC.

The jewellery manager told DC that they sell ornaments with 916 mark and that there was nothing wrong with the ornaments. Assistant Food Safety Commissioner in Thrissur C.L. Dileep said that an inquiry would be conducted into the matter by collecting the samples of the raw fish.
