Hyderabad: Babies to get Aadhaar at hospital

GHMC calls it a paradigm shift from the traditional concept where the government asks citizens to apply for certificates.

Hyderabad: The GHMC is planning to issue Aadhaar cards for newborns along with birth certificates at government hospitals under the Sishu Aadhaar Project.

GHMC calls it a paradigm shift from the traditional concept where the government asks citizens to apply for certificates. But under the “Happy Babies Telangana Babies” drive, citizens will get certificates directly at hospitals.

Mr Surendra Mohan, additional commissioner (IT) of the GHMC, said, “Babies born in government hospitals will be Aadhaar-enrolled and their birth certificates will be issued within seven days.

This project will be implemented with support of the health department, GHMC and ITE.

The birth defects registry is based on the birth certificate. Birth defects reported on the birth certificate and all other data elements are part of the birth defects registry.

The move would help in pushing the Aadhaar/birth certifi-cate/defect certificate into a digital locker of the newborns and will also help the health department monitor delivery of all welfare and health-related benefits to an infant, tracking the child from birth to immunisation to school admission.”

He said it will seek to serve as a database of children for timely and assured delivery of services.

The hospital head will sign for verification documents for Aadhaar. The Aadhaar enrolment will be free for children.
