Kerala High Court stays probe against IG Manoj Abraham

The court allowed the stay after Mr Abraham challenged the court order.

Kochi: Kerala High has stayed for two months the Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court order directing VACB to register a case against IG Manoj Abraham on a plea alleging amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The court allowed the stay after Mr Abraham challenged the court order. P.P. Chandrasekharan Nair of Pathanamthitta moved the court accusing Mr Abraham having an unholy nexus with the quarry mafia and misusing his position to stop action against illegal quarrying in Pathanamthitta.

The plea alleged that the police officer had constructed a big house in Thiruvananthapuram and conducted numerous foreign trips using sponsorship of some businesspeople. He had also alleged irregularities committed by the IG in the purchase of arms for the India Reserve Battalion and that he had invested a substantial portion of his ill-gotten money in St. Mary's group related to his wife. Mr Abraham refuted the allegation and argued that the quick verification conducted by the deputy superintendent of police, special cell, vigilance, Ernakulam, had found that the allegations against the petitioner had not been substantiated by any material. The SP had not recommended any action against him.
