Thunchan fest begins in Tirur

The meet was co-sponsored and broadcast by the All India Radio Kozhikode station.

MALAPPURAM: The annual Thunchan fest, organised by Thunchan Memorial Trust and Sahitya Academy, New Delhi, has begun at Thunchanparanba in Tirur on Saturday. Noted Tamil poet Vairamuthu inaugurated the four-day event at the native place of Thuchath Ezhuthachan, the father of Malayalam language. The chairman of the trust and writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair presided. Poets’ meet was the highlight of the first day of the fest.

The meet was co-sponsored and broadcast by the All India Radio Kozhikode station. Film director Lal Jose inaugurated the Thunchan arts fest on 5 pm. The first day of the fest was concluded by a Carnatic vocal concert presented by Vidwan Mallai Suribabu and Malladi Brothers from Vijayavada.
