Reports from Law Academy are startling: Binoy Viswam

The CPI and CPM have been on different sides over the Law Academy Law College agitation.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI leader Binoy Viswam on Saturday said the state government and Kerala University should not be mere spectators in the face of grave allegations being raised against the Law Academy Law College. The national executive member of CPI said the agitation launched by AISF which faced police brutality sent across the message that it was time to act on these allegations. The reports coming out of Law Academy were startling, he said.

Mr Viswam said the agitating AISF activists would not move back till the students' demands are accepted and justice was done. He reminded the government indirectly that valiant struggles of the students could not be defeated with brute force. "AISF activists are nurturing the agitation with their blood," he said while referring to the police repression unleashed against AISF activists in front of the secretariat on Friday.

The CPI and CPM have been on different sides over the Law Academy Law College agitation. While the CPM leaders have tried to portray it as student agitation which had nothing to do with political parties, the CPI right from the beginning maintained that it is a mass agitation concerning the society. CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran was one of the first top politicians to visit the agitating students pandal. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on the other hand visited the agitation pandal on Saturday, 17 days after the stir began.
