KSHRC to visit Kochi cancer centre

The Commission has also pointed out that its earlier directive of starting an outpatient section has not been complied.

KOCHI: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission will undertake an onsite visit to the Kochi Cancer Centre on July 11 to have first knowledge of the progress of the project. The commission has also directed the health secretary, technical special officers and the complainants who have approached the commission in this regard to be present on the occasion.

The Commission has decided to have an on the spot inspection on the plea made by Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer Movement during the sitting held on Friday. Although the former chief minister Oommen Chandy had stated that a full-fledged cancer treatment facility with global standards will be established in two years while placing the foundation stone for the project in August 2014, so far the authorities concerned have not even earmarked the location for the Centre, leaders of the movement submitted to the commission.

The Commission has expressed displeasure over the representatives of the government failing to attend the meeting. The matter will be brought to the attention of the CM and health minister, said Commission chairman Justice JB Koshy. The Commission has also pointed out that its earlier directive of starting an outpatient section has not been complied.
