Travancore Titanium Products probe turns to political leaders

Now a probe is on into the alleged conspiracy hatched by the political leadership and top TTP officials.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) informed the vigilance special court here on Monday that a probe was on into the alleged conspiracy involving political leadership behind the corruption at the Travancore Titanium Products (TTP). It said the probe was so far focussed on the corruption at the level of officials. Now a probe is on into the alleged conspiracy hatched by the political leadership and top TTP officials.

A progress report of the inquiry will be submitted in two months in the case in which former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and former works minister V.K. Ibrahim Kunju faced corruption allegation in the installation of a '256 crore hazardous waste treatment plant. Meanwhile, advocate S. Chandrasekharan Nair has been appointed as the special prosecutor in the case. He was earlier appearing for the petitioner S Jayan, a former employee of TTP.

Legal sources said since the state’s interest did not contradict with that of the complainant, there was no irregularity in his appointment as special prosecutor. A VACB team led by vigilance director Jacob Thomas had carried out surprise checks in July and found that the equipment of the waste treatment plan remained unused on TTP premises. They also collected various documents related to the deal.
